(TOWSON, MD) –Employees of IWIF Workers’ Compensation Insurance, Maryland’s largest provider of workers’ compensation insurance, donated $40,414 to the Maryland Charity Campaign during the State’s 2006 fundraiser. In addition, IWIF matched the amount, bringing the total contribution to $80,828, about $1,200 more than the previous year.

On January 30, 2007, Daniel E. McKew, Chairman of IWIF’s board, and Carolyn Gutermuth, IWIF Manger of Community and Government Relations, proudly presented the $80,000 check to Kelly Perry, Manager of United Way of Central Maryland. United Way of Central Maryland manages the Maryland Charity Campaign under a contract with the Secretary of State’s Office.

“While IWIF and its employees perform many acts of kindness throughout the community all year long, The Maryland Charity Campaign is the biggest, collective charitable event sponsored by the company,” says McKew.

Based in Towson, Md., IWIF is a fully self-supporting insurance company that operates solely from premium and investment income.

Other acts of giving in 2006

IWIF’s Charitable Contributions Committee, comprised of employees who volunteer their time to plan fundraisers, donations and award grant money, reported co-workers turned out in record numbers in 2006 to give to those in need and participate in a variety of charitable events. Throughout the year, many of IWIF’s 400 employees participated in various events, which were designed to give back to the community. Opportunities included: safety training at Merganthaler Vocational Technical High School, Red Cross blood drives, mentoring children at Harford Hills Elementary School through Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Maryland, raising scholarship Monday for Kids’ Chance of Maryland, and collecting food for various food banks around the state and much more.

The company’s committee also awards grant money and matching funds to non-profit organizations throughout the State with a 501(c) (3) status that support children’s health and education, safety in the workplace and home, and those that provide relief for medical, environmental or natural disasters.
