IWIF
Introduces Fraud-fighting Toolkit for Policyholders, Agents
(TOWSON, MD)–IWIF, Maryland's largest workers' compensation
insurance carrier, introduces a new fraud-fighting toolkit designed
to help its policyholders, Maryland independent insurance agents
and business owners combat workers’ compensation insurance
fraud. The free kit defines the various types of workers’ comp
fraud; includes ‘Red Flags of Fraud,’ a comprehensive
list of warning signs of possible claimant fraud; actual case summaries
of recent fraud convictions spearheaded by IWIF’s Special
Investigations Unit; and two anti-fraud posters for employers to
post in their workplaces.
Furthermore, the kit explains how the law distinguishes between
fraud and betterment. “Sometimes, what appears to be fraudulent
activity, especially pertaining to claimants, turns out to be a
case of betterment, not theft,” explains Jerry Landsman,
IWIF Director of Fraud. “Everyone can have a hand in stopping
insurance fraud. With IWIF, our customers have an insurance partner
committed to keeping premiums and the cost of comp benefits contained.”
