IWIF and employees donate over $75,000 to Maryland Charity Campaign
TOWSON,
MD—Employees at IWIF Workers’ Compensation Insurance donated nearly $38,000 to the Maryland Charity Campaign, the state-sponsored fundraising initiative for local and national charities. With the company match of employees’ donations, the total contribution to Maryland Charity approached $76,000.
IWIF President and CEO Thomas J. Phelan, CPA, presented representatives from the campaign with the donation check in April.
“I am proud to say that despite the slumping economy, the generous nature of IWIF employees did not waver,” said Phelan. “IWIF has long been an organization of caring for the disenfranchised. This is evident by employees’ desire to help the community through monetary donations and volunteerism year after year. Our company is proud to support their efforts through matching donations and providing nominal paid time off to volunteer.”
Other acts of giving increased in 2008
IWIF’s Charitable Contributions Committee, comprised of employees who volunteer their time to plan fundraisers, donations and award grant money, reported co-workers turned out in record numbers in 2008 to participate in a variety of charitable events.
The company’s committee also awards grant money and matching funds to non-profit organizations throughout the State with a 501(c) (3) status that support children’s health and education, safety in the workplace and home, and those that provide relief for medical, environmental or natural disasters.
IWIF is the largest provider of workers’ compensation insurance in the state and is a fully self-supporting insurance company that operates solely from premium and investment income. Located in Towson, the company employs nearly 400 workers.
