IWIF Offers FREE
Hispanic Workers’
Safety Information Kit
To Employers
In recognition of Maryland’s Workplace Safety Week, June 11-17, and the
entire month of June officially “National Safety Month”, IWIF has
published a free “
Hispanic Workers’ Safety
Information Kit” for employers.
IWIF, as Maryland’s leading provider of workers’ compensation
insurance coverage, is seeing a continued increase in Hispanic
worker injuries – now at 10% of all our lost time injuries
up from 7% in 2003. Overall, IWIF saw an 8% decrease in workplace
injuries in 2005, but an increase of injuries to Hispanic workers.
IWIF has found that in some cases, the non-English speaking Hispanic
worker may not understand how to perform their jobs safely. Language
becomes a barrier to doing the job safely. Many of Maryland’s
Hispanic workers are working in high-risk occupations doing physically
demanding jobs such as roofing, construction, masonry and landscaping.
This free kit for employers includes a number of helpful and informative “tools” in
English and Spanish.
· Injuries Increasing for Maryland’s Non-English
Speaking Hispanic Workers – Understanding the issues
· When an Injury Occurs – Step
by Step Guide
· Cuando ocurra un accidente
· Injury Reporting Reminder Poster
· Sin se lastima mientras esta trabajando: Usted debe de informario
immediatamente a su supervisor
· Workers’ Safety Rights & Responsibilities
· Sus derechos y responsabilidades sobre la seguridad
· Ladder Safety – Uso seguro de las escaleras
· Personal Protection Equipment Reminder
· Basic Landscaping Safety
· Publications order form to order additional copies of
these and other IWIF Spanish safety materials.
